Canine Heroes in Afghanistan War
Stray mutts are among the causalities in the war in Afghanistan. Sasha died while alerting U.S. troops of a Taliban terrorist coming to bomb the military base. Rufus and Target survived the bombing, but were severely wounded. The suicide bomber was taken by surprise by the canine war heroes. Rufus bit the terrorist while Target and Sasha barked to alert the U.S. troops. The terrorist bombs went off before reaching the area where 50 soldiers were sleeping.
For their heroic efforts, Rufus will be reunited with National Guardsman, Sergeant Chris Duke in Augusta, Georgia. Target will live in Phoenix with the Army medic who saved the pup’s life after the bombing. With the help of non-profit groups, these dogs are leaving the war and finding forever homes.
